Instead of utilizing only traditional recipes, S+S will go the extra mile and make full use of rare conjunctions or other astrological events to maximize potency. Some of them being the whole, "this alignment only happens once every few decades," sort of deal.

As such, materia can be costly, but is a worthy investment for people who are already used to doing their own spellwork, and want to add some extra punch to their spells or spirit offerings. (While many of their products are just fine being used solo for passive effects, I prefer to use them actively so as not to accidentally "waste" them.) They have all sorts of bottled sizes for their materia, so you can always just get what's cheapest as a sampler and see how it vibes with you.

I do sometimes buy my own materia, but sometimes I receive these as gifts from others. I haven't experienced every line they have (or even most of them!) but every single one I have used certainly has energy to it. Sometimes it doesn't vibe well with me, but the effects are noticeable.
