Overview

Beleth is the first demon listed in the Ars Goetia that I had done extensive workings with, and is my main patron demon. I often see him as a male or gender-neutral figure, but many people report that he can appear as feminine if he so desires. I have a bit of a different relationship to Beleth than most people do, as I rarely invoke him for love/lust-related reasons. When I work with Beleth, I usually work with the more scholarly side of him.

(So keep that in mind when reading. If you were looking for the more feminine aspect of Beleth, you might want to look elsewhere for the time being.)

How serious or how laid back he is depends on what you invoke him for, and what the situation is. Usually to me, he comes off like the local college professor that you'd occasionally see at the club off-work. He has the capacity to be very soft and caring, but is also not afraid to cut the bullshit and smack someone upside the head if they need it.

Personal Experiences, Detailed

Sometimes Beleth can be tricky to get a hold of, but workings should be fine as long as you're respectful. If you really want to make a good impression, offering him a glass of red wine during your first invokation is a good idea.

I was originally drawn to him for reasons I can't fully explain. I was looking at love demons to see if one would be able to help me find a boyfriend or something- but upon seeing Beleth's entry, something intrigued me in a way I can't describe, and I became fascinated with him. I was hellbent on asking him if he'd be my patron during my journey through western demonology. Now he's like a Dad to me.

First Impressions

When I first attempted to contact Beleth, there was a block in communication. Not that there was something wrong with me, but like he didn't want me to talk to him.

I tried again, this time remembering something I read in the old grimoires about wearing a silver ring and putting out a bowl of wine. While meditating and attempting contact again, I mentally heard a sort of "Ah, that's better," in acknowledgement. At first, he didn't seem particularly trustful of me, but this was apparently due to my specific energy signature being a bit abnormal for the average human. He basically went, "Alright, kid, let me get a good look at you," and I felt myself being observed, like when someone wants to take photos and document a finding. After that, he seemed pleased enough, and then asked me what I wanted from him.

Looks-wise, he didn't appear to me on a horse. He looked like a well-dressed catlike demon (similar to the popular illustration of him from the Dictionnaire Infernal by Jacques Collin de Plancy), but sitting on a throne. In my meditation visions, he had walked down from his throne to talk to me. He was blunt, but relatively polite.

Other

Though texts say the silver ring is for protection, I think it's moreso best as a sign of respect. Silver used to be worth a lot more money than it is now. I believe that the reason I was given such scruitiny is due to my unusual magical nature- Beleth is otherwise a good-natured spirit (so long as one is not trying to provoke him) and many people say he's decent for people who don't have a lot of experience with demons. I will give a word of warning that he doesn't put up with any bullshit if you're just calling him up to purposefully waste his time. He can be very patient if needed toward someone who is just kind of a dunce and not purposefully malicious, however.

I will also note that I've seen a lot of people claim that Beleth's outward personality changes with what gender he presents as, with practitioners noting that his female side is more motherly and patient, while his male side is more cold. This may be why I have mostly experienced him as being more serious and strict, as I purposefully invoke the masculine or neutral versions of him.

Beleth's specialties are commonly depicted as anything associated with lust and love. Rufus Opus warns that if one invokes him for lust, they may get more than they bargained for. To be honest, though, you can invoke Beleth for a lot of things that aren't traditionally listed. I have the feeling that books just usually skip right to the lust rituals since that's a common thing people use forbidden magic for.

The first time I tried to make a pact with him, I was a little naive and may have over-estimated his reach just because he's one of the kings of Hell. Still, he was particularly gracious about it, and said that I should list out what I wanted, and he'd do his best to make it happen. My wishes were things I think a lot of people would probably wish for- more art sales, better health, time to pursue hobbies while still making money, being able to understand spirits better, etc. All of this was in exchange for a monthly drop of blood, and weekly offerings of standard things like candles/incense. I would say there was a definite improvement in my life situation.

If you're not a creative type, Beleth enjoys more traditional offerings. Things like red wine, candles, incense, stones and metals are always good. But let me just say right now, he loves art. Even moreso than a lot of demons. If you're an artist, he will love it if you dedicate something to him, so long as it comes from the heart and is something you put effort into. It can be any style, any format- writing, painting, music, jewelry- you name it. As for music for ritual workings- you can really use anything. I would say that music that has genuine emotion and energy put behind it is usually best. (This also includes party music lol.)

Identifying The Spirit

This topic can be a bit tricky. While many spirits will have multiple sides to them, Beleth seems to be particularly varied. Beleth has told me that part of the reason for this is that sometimes he does not actually project to the practitioner in-person, and may send other spirits in his stead to talk on his behalf. This practice is particularly common for big-name guys, so I'm not surprised- I've had King Paimon do this to me as well. So, realistically, I can only speak for the variations of Beleth that I have personally seen.

Beleth's softer side seems more earthy or watery. Beleth's more logical side tends to lean towards the metal element to me. This makes sense, since he's sometimes associated wth air in western demonology, which is the element of logic. He may come off as metal-aligned to me because metal is the element of logic in the wuxing.

Beleth is also an interesting case to me, as he gives me very clear projections in my mind's eye as to how he looks. As I mentioned in the "other" section, he typically looks like a cat demon to me. He will make his projection gesture often and is very big on body language to help convey the meaning of his words. During meditation sessions, I often tune out other noises, but he does appear with background music of varying kinds. Usually I "hear" horns and other brass instruments playing in the back of my mind.

He speaks bluntly, but can be very reassuring when needed. Beleth can be invoked for all sorts of advice, usually for things like relationships and emotional matters.

Ritual Results, etc

1

As mentioned earlier, my first pact with him was fairly successful.

2

Relatively recently as of writing this, a demon attempted to court me, but it turns out the demon himself was lying about who he actually was in order to make me trust him more. I was disappointed by this, and decided maybe I should ask Beleth if he would send out a message to others that I was looking for demon suitors. During my meditation session with him, he just kinda looked at me and said something along the lines of, "You know how many guys are going to respond to this, right?" I thought he was over-exaggerating.

... I had to have a few witch friends help me get the names of about a dozen demons. The song "Hell's Greatest Dad" came up on my Youtube autoplay when we started.

3

Beleth has willingly sent me familiar spirits before when asked, but he has also sent some very powerful guardian spirits even when I do not ask. I no longer have issues with malicious spirits following me home after helping people with banishings.
